Cancun Climate Conference, Japan Says No To Kyoto

Things are not going well for the climate industry at the Cancun conference. Japan announced that it would not be a party to renewal of the Kyoto Protocol which expires in 2012. A Japanese official said, ” “Japan will not inscribe its target under the Kyoto protocol on any conditions or under any circumstances.”

To open the conference, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, invoked the ancient jaguar goddess Ixchel in her opening statement to delegates gathered in Cancun, Mexico, noting that Ixchel was not only goddess of the moon, but also “the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving. May she inspire you — because today, you are gathered in Cancun to weave together the elements of a solid response to climate change, using both reason and creativity as your tools.” (Washington Post)

Meanwhile, according to an article in the British Globe and Mail, Canada is getting ready to walk away. “Canada remains the only country to ratify Kyoto and then publicly renounce its 2012 emission targets…” Canada is “seeking a legally binding treaty that includes all major emitters, which is what the Copenhagen Accord was all about last year. That includes the emerging economies of China and India. It also includes the United States, which did not ratify Kyoto and has no intention of doing so.”

President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, announce that he will ban the use of incandescent light bulbs throughout Mexico. By some calculations, that would make a difference of 0.004% in Mexico’s carbon emissions.

The 16th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP16) did reached its first consensus by approving a proposal on education, training and consciousness as part of efforts to mitigate climate change (i.e., brainwashing).

The proposal commits signatories to promote formal and informal education strategies covering the climate change phenomenon.

“One of the most important aspects of adaptation and mitigation is people’s behavior,” said Guatemala’s Environment Minister Luis Ferrate.

“We have to create a citizenry that is more conscious of climate change, and that means education and training,” he added. (Source, China Radio International)

The real purpose of the conference is not climate, it is to extract $100 billion per year from industrial countries to go into U.N. coffers purportedly to help third world countries to cut their carbon emissions.

By the way, yesterday, Cancun set a 100-year record low temperature for that date of 54 F. Ironic.

  1. GREAT ARTICLE!!!
We have GOT to get out of the UN!!  By what authority can this discredited body (UN IPCC) create ANY agreements that are binding on Americans?!  Or anyone else for that matter?  This is ridiculous.
PS–ban incandescent lights in Mexico??!  What a brilliant idea.  We will purportedly decrease carbon emissions by an infinetesimal amount (which along with other global programs costing 100’s of billions year, MAY lower the temperature by a degree or two in about 300 years!!), while simultaneously exposing every Mexican citizen wealthy enough to enjoy electricity with MERCURY from compact bulbs!!!  Oh, they didn’t tell you those miracle bulbs are highly toxic?!  They ought to require full hazmat response to be properly disposed of, and poison people and afflict them with low-grade migraines and other problems while they are in use.  Not to mention the bioaccumulation in human beings, the environment and the food chain of deadly and almost impossible to remove MERCURY from all of these “earth-friendly” bulbs!!  This is so sick and insane!!!  They don’t care about the environment!  This is a global takeover!!!!

  2. Does anyone need further proof of a God, Al Gore and his moleman army can even open their mouths about global warming without the temps dropping. Isn’t this the 5th conference in a row with record low temps?
You just know if God does a stand up act his opening joke stats with “So Al Gore walks into a bar”.

  3. The first sign that this isn’t real reporting, an editorial comment near the bottom telling you, the reader, the “REAL PURPOSE” without citing a source, or explaining in a reasonable manner how the author came to this conclusion.

Really now, you’ve got to be kidding.

“The real purpose of the conference is not climate, it is to extract $100 billion per year from industrial countries to go into U.N. coffers purportedly to help third world countries to cut their carbon emissions.”

    1. NO, the writer is not kidding AT ALL. After you read about a few hundred pages of the other side of the AGW argument like at iceagenow.com, you begin to realize that a changing climate is not the point of a climate change conference at all. It is only one more fraudulent excuse for certain collectivist individuals to get more ill-gotten money for their centralist, globalist, tax & spend agendas.
I still find it hard to believe ANYONE believes the arguments of the “human-caused Global Warming” crowd anymore. Especially after the courts in England ruled on the 9 major errors in Al Gore’s film (Google “9 errors inconvenient truth”), and the e-mails got revealed in Climategate (Google that too). Too bad they did not mention the other 25 or so errors in Al’s film, just for good measure. …
Follow the Money, ESPECIALLY the dollars Al Gore is attempting to coax into his own pockets via his Generation Investment Management firm.

  4. @GottaBeKidding:

Have you read any objective “news” about climate change or the UN climate conferences since Rio in ’92?  Indeed, the context really does have NOTHING to do with climate; but all about moving money around the globe to respective establishments as trade and energy policies and technologies evolve.

The capitalist economic system correctly provokes hard working people to enrich themselves by way of completely voluntary markets.  America went astray a long time ago, to the point a lot of folks no longer understand capitalism, but mistake it for fascism and solution.  For you information, the climate change context is a fascist machination.  And anybody who supports it, who also will make money from it, should be held legally, criminally accountable.   Because it’s a contextual fraud.
